History

In 1992 The Township of Papineau-Cameron was formed by the amalgamation of the Township of Papineau and the Improvment District of Cameron.  Each were originally created in 1887.  The Township is located along the Trans Canada Highway #17 which borders the Ottawa River, stretching from the County of Renfrew line on the east, south to Algonquin Park and the unincorporated Township of Boyd, the Township of Calvin on the west and by the Mattawa River on the north. The Township covers 54,451 square hectares. With a current population of 914 and a household count of 500, which includes seasonal cottages and camps.

The municipality is rural residential in nature with a mixture of industrial and commercial properties.  The main employers are Tembec Forest Products, Gin-Cor Industries and tourist related facilities.  The Township has excellent municipal roads that feed onto the highway, CP Rail/Ottawa Valley Rail Link services are located beside the highway, properties have hydro and natural gas services.  Both vacant and developed properties are available and the infrastruture is ideal for new industry or commercial development.

The vast amount of crown land located south of Highway #17, creates a playground for residents and visitors alike; for snowmobiling, ATV riding, hunting, fishing, biking, hiking and nature lovers.  There are cottages, cabins and motels catering to the tourism market.
